Anyone can become a Dance Teacher. Becoming a Good Dance Teacher, however, is a matter of developing your Dance Skills, your Teaching Methods, your Communication Skills, your Professionalism, and your Understanding of People and the Market. Then you will need to gain some hands on experience.
The best way ( but not the only way ) is to become Certified with a recognized dance teaching body, such as:
(a) The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance ( I.S.T.D. )
(b) The International Dance Teachers Association ( I.D.T.A. )
(c) The Canadian Dance Federation ( C.D.F. )
(d) The Canadian Dance Teachers Association ( C.D.T.A. )
You will need a properly trained dance instructor to guide you in your dance preparation and your text book study. This teacher ( or trainer ) should be qualified to Licentiate or Fellowship Level with one or more of such teaching bodies. A proper trainer should also be qualifed to Highly Commended. John Howardson is qualifed Highly Commended Licentiate with the I.S.T.D., and similiarly certified with I.D.T.A. and C.D.T.A..
If you would like to train to become a Certified Dance Instructor and would like to learn more about what it entails, feel free to contact John and set up a meeting.
